go to school và go to a school
Sự khác nhau giữa "go to school" và "go to a school".
1. go to school/college ... => đi học
school/college (uncountable noun): (không dùng "the" hoặc "a")=> the process of learning in a school/a college ; the time during your life when you go to a school/a college ; the time during the day when children are working in a school/ a college: quá trình học tập ở một trường; thời học sinh /sinh viên trong cuộc đời của bạn; giờ học.
Where did you go to school?
He's hoping to go to college next year.
(British English) All my kids are still at school.
She's always at college in California.
(North American English) All my kids are still in school.
(North American English) to teach school (= teach in a school)
School begins at 9.
The kids are at/in school until 3.30.
2. go to a school/a college (countable noun) (dùng với "a, an, the") => đến một trường... để học
a school/a college...: a place where children/students go to be educated. => một nơi mà trẻ con/học sinh/sinh viên đến để học tập. => đến một trường (gì đó) để học.
My son decided to go to a teacher training college.
He is going to a vocational college.
They arranged for her to go to a secretarial college.
3. quit school/drop out
a. quit school: to leave your school
(British English) to start/leave school: bắt đầu/bỏ học
(North American English) to start/quit school: bắt đầu/bỏ học
b. drop out: to leave school, college, etc. without finishing your studies; If a student drops out, they stop going to classes before they have finished their course.
Too many students drop out of college after only one year.
She started a degree but dropped out after only a year.
Many students drop out because they are notprepared for our challenging program.
=> "drop out" hoặc "drop out of school/college/study..." có nghĩa tương tự với "quit school/college/ someone's study...". Chỉ khác là dùng "quit" ở ngữ cảnh thân mật, còn "drop out" thì trang trọng.
