Common verbs followed by either infinitives or gerunds
-Group A: V + Vo or + V-ing with no difference in meaning: begin, start, continue, like, love, prefer, hate, can't stand, can't bear
-Group B: with difference in meaning
-Remember + infinitive: remember to perform responsibility, duty, or task
Example: Jack always remembers to lock the door
-Remember + V-ing: remember (recall) something that happened in the past
Example: I remember seeing the Fuji for the first time. The sight was impressive
-Forget + infinitive: forget to perform a responsibility, duty or task
I often forget to lock the door
-Forget + V-ing: forget something that happened in the past
Example: I never forget seeing the Fuji for the first time
-Regret + infinitive: regret to say, to tell someone, to inform someone of some bad news
Example: I regret to tell you that you failed the test
-Regret + V-ing: regret something that happend in the past
Example: I regret lending him some money. He never paid me back
-Try + infinitive: make an effort
Example: I am trying to learn English
-Try + V-ing: experiment with a new or different approach to see if it works
Example: The room was hot. I tried opening the window, but that didn't help. So, I tried turning on the fan, but I was stil hot. Finally, I turned on the air conditioner.
-Stop + infinitive: pause in an activity, journey..in order toto something before you continue
Example: I stop to tie my shoe
-Stop + V-ing: prevent from doing sth/ to not to do something any longer
Example: It's so hard to stop smoking
