Love/like/hate to do sth và Love/like/hate doing sth
- love/like/hate + doing sth được dùng khi đề cập đến sở thích - thích/ghét - (trong lúc nói chuyện).
VD:
I hate drinking. => I don't enjoy drinking.
I like stretching before I go jogging. => The speaker enjoys stretching before going jogging.
Molly hates sitting still and doing nothing. => Molly doesn't enjoy sitting and doing nothing.
- love/like/hate + to do sth khi đề cập đến hành động cụ thể.
VD:
I hate to drink.
=> I don't think drinking is a good thing to do.
=> So don't go to drink!
I like to stretch before I go jogging.
=> the speaker thinks that stretching before jogging is a good idea.
=> So do it!
Molly hates to sit still and do nothing.
=> She doens't think sitting still and doing nothing are good things to do.
=> So, stand up and do something, please!
Tuy nhiên, người Mỹ thường không phân biệt hai cách dùng này, họ thường dùng "to do" hơn.
