Câu "Seasons means it's like living in a new place every four months" có thể phân tích như sau:

- Seasons = dùng với động từ số ít, vì "seasons" là danh từ số nhiều nhưng thuộc dạng danh từ tập hợp, thuộc nhóm thời gian nên dùng số động từ dạng số ít. Trường hợp động từ "means" dùng có "s" là đúng.

- It's like = "like" dùng như một preposition, không phải động từ, nên phải dùng có "to be" = giống như gì đó

- Cả câu "It's like living in a new place every four months" = hoàn toàn đúng, có nghĩa là, "Nó giống như sống ở một nơi mới mỗi 4 tháng vậy."

Có một điều cần phải xem xét là, "every four months" hay "every three months"?

Và nếu nói "Seasons means" cùng với "It's like living..." thành 1 câu thì đối với người nước ngoài như Việt Nam thì có vẻ nó PHI CẤU TRÚC, không giống như thứ ngữ pháp nào đã học.

Nhưng thường trong câu nói, người bản xứ diễn đạt bằng nhiều từ, nhiều cụm đồng nghĩa... mang tính nhấn mạnh, hay giải thích thêm, làm rõ nghĩa thêm... chứ không nhất thiết lúc nào cũng phải GÃY GỌN NHƯ TRONG SÁCH.

Trong trường hợp này, có thể nghe một người Việt nói như sau:

"Mùa có nghĩa là.........(có ngắt quảng ngắn)........  nó giống như cứ mỗi 4 tháng thì sống ở một nơi mới vậy."

yeah. and It's only for Vietnamse people using. Grammar is always perfect, right?  No native speakers can understand the sentence above. So it will be used  for Vietnamse people among?

The above sentence should be revised as follow

"Having four seasons is like living in a new place every three months"

As a learner I think I should follow the grammar I have learn in order to get good marks .

If in a test asking me to choose the correct structure from

                        a/ Seasons means it's like living in a new place every...

                        b/ Seasons is  like living in a new place every..

I think I must choose b/

since apparently a/ is not grammatical correct

And I cannot reason ..what a native speaker says, or not.

Anyway, did anyone of you ever noticed that native speakers  occasionally ignore the grammatical rules of their own language?..but we...shouldn't, just to be on the safe side.

Three months   or four months...is not a grammatical mistake ! It's mathematical..He! He!

So we can make allowance for this.

How many Vietnamese members of the site can analyse our Vietnamese grammar? What would happen if one day Americans taught us Vietnamse grammar?and What is language for? Grammar is an important element of learning languages, we can not deny it but not the most important thing though. Grammar is for what, when we can not communicate in English with native speakers? How many English learners can they speak English well for a long-time learning? Many English learners told me that they could write or read English pretty well but not speak or listen. We pay attention to theory too much for many fields of life and lack of practical skills. That's why it is.

This is my own ideas for this sentence :

1- Season :It's one plural noun,talking about the 4 seasons in common,it's not very necessary to add more with the "s".

2- like : It's standing before the verb" live",which's the part to supplement for the following verb,so we use it as one "adverb", "likely".

So my sentence here is : "Season means it's likely living in a new place every 4 months. "

@ Peter: I'm only talking about native English. I actually don't know what should be used for Vietnamese and what for natives when talking about English. I mean it should be the same thing.

The above sentence sounds natural to me and I can understand it the first time I set eyes on it. But when you said that no native speakers can understand it, I think may be they only see the sentence itself, way apart from its context.

As you know, for some sentences and phrases in English that we ourselves understand them only. such as " no star where", " I love toilet you", " seven love",  " I study drive pilot" etc..

Those are what I really don't understand. I think that people use them just for fun, aren't they? I know some places people often say "đừng có onion down tôi quá vậy đó" and they all understand it as a funny way of saying of an ethnic minority in the US. It's not a joke, but don't take it seriously.

eventually, if the sentence above sounds pretty good to you, you can have it but not me. No offense.

Sorry, I don't mean it's for you or for me. I just want to kick around some opinions with you and everybody here.

But I'm so sorry to have let this situation go very far.

ok. forgot it. I just want to make this site become more perfect and English learners get better with right ways. Thank you for your ideas anyway. The more we discuss, the more we find out new things.
