Sử dụng mạo từ như thế nào quả thật gây nhiều khó khăn cho những người học tiếng Anh. Chính mình cũng thường xuyên bối rối khi sử dụng mạo từ. Mình sưu tầm & xin tóm tắt một số cách sử dụng mạo từ, mong là có thể giúp ích cho các bạn.

1. KHÔNG DÙNG MẠO TỪ - ZERO ARTICLE

- Trước tên người & danh hiệu của họ - Before the names of people and their titles (Ví dụ: Dr. David Young)

- Trước danh từ số nhiều đếm được có nghĩa chung chung - Before countable plural nouns in a general sense (Ví dụ: Cats have claws)

- Trước dawn & night - Before parts of the day (at dawn, at night)

- Trước bữa ăn - Before meals (Ví dụ: breakfast, lunch)

- Trước tên riêng của địa danh - Before many place names (Ví dụ: Africa, Madrid, Mount Fuji, Oxford Street, Lake Como, Primrose Hill, Easter Island)

2. A / AN

- Trước nghề nghiệp - Before professions (He's a doctor.)

- Giới thiệu một người hoặc một vật lần đầu tiên, người nghe hay người đọc chưa biết người hoặc vật đó. Sau lần giới thiệu đầu tiên này, ta dùng THE - To introduce a person or thing for the first time. This shows that the listener or reader doesn't know that person or thing yet. After this first introduction, we use THE. (Ví dụ: I saw a bird. The bird had a red tail. The red tail was beautiful).

- Giá cả - For price (Ví dụ: 5,000 VND a kilo), khoảng cách - distance (Ví dụ: 40km an hour) and tính thường xuyên - frequency (Ví dụ: twice a week)

- Chứng bệnh - With illnesses (Ví dụ: a cold, a headache, a sore throat…)

3. THE

- Trước một danh từ đã được đề cập trước đó, hoặc danh từ đã rõ ràng - Before a noun that has been previously mentioned or is clear. (Ví dụ: We stopped at a small village. The village was very antique.)

- So sánh nhất - In superlative expressions (Ví dụ: the most luxury hotels.)

- THE NOUN OF (Ví dụ: The life of Mrs. Dậu was very stormy.)

- Trước một danh từ đã được làm rõ nghĩa bởi một nhóm từ hoặc mệnh đề theo sau - Before a noun identified by a phrase or clause that follows. (Ví dụ: It's the hotel that Miss Universe stayed in last summer.)

- Trước danh từ hoặc vật thể DUY NHẤT - Before the nouns of objects we regard as UNIQUE: (Ví dụ: the earth, the sea, the sun …)

- Áp dụng cho thập kỷ, hoặc nhóm nhiều năm - With decades, or groups of years (She grew up in the seventies)

- Một vài tên riêng - With some place names (Ví dụ: Oceans and seas: the Pacific Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea.)

* Sông - Rivers: (Ví dụ: the River Danube, the River Thames.)

* Dãy núi - Mountain ranges: (Ví dụ: The Alps, the Himalayas.)

* Quốc gia cộng hòa hoặc liên hiệp - Countries which are òublics or unions: (Ví dụ: The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, The United States …)
