Thinking of learning English effectively
Hi everyone. It's a long time since English Club was built up. There are not clear subjects to share experience. Today I start a new English campaign (methods, English lessons which I myself write or collect) by regular updating in every subject on this forum. Please read and give support to me. Let's begin!
You're interested in learning English (or any other foreign languages); at least once, you were seeking for ways to improve your English more effectively, quickly... You can refer to documents (from your teachers, your friends, searching on the Internet...) Now, we will discuss searching documents on the Internet: you open Firefox, Google Chorme or Internet Explorer; you type "www.google.com" and search the phrase "methods of learning english" / "how to improve your English". You will have thousands of answers. If you read them carefully, you realize that they have some things in common (do this one or that one, how to read, how to talk...)
I have confessed to reading many articles about this. There always have true things to learn, but, sometimes they make us feel confused, embarrassed, want to learn all... Reading more and more is not good absolutely. You read more, know more, after that...what did you practice? Do you know the idiom "practice makes perfect"? So, practice plays an important part in our success.
Therefore, to me, it's not essential for you to have a good method. There has no one who evaluates if you have a good method, you are perfect in English. People really appreciate your good skills in English, they conclude you had a good method to achieve that satisfactory results. Oh...now..what should you do? Reading some advices below (maybe they will help you clear away difficulty when you are in high school)
- Consider English as a language not a school subject. You don't learn a new subject, you learn how to communicate (with somebody in the world), express your thoughts through another language (not in Vietnamese).
Ex: In Vietnamse, when you see a cat, you say "Ồ. Đó là con mèo". In English, you say "Oh. This is a cat"
- English, because of being a language, the most important thing is you can use it to express your thoughts. You are not a linguist, you don't research English. You have to learn to use it daily.
- In high school, maybe you think you are a linguist because you must learn total grammar, do many grammar excersices, grammar structures...You have these feelings due to your limited awareness. You feel onerous with curriculum. You sometimes ask yourself: Why don't we learn more about READING, LISTENING, or TALKING...? I answer: GRAMMAR is cement, VOCABULARY – READING – LISTENING ... are bricks. How large wall do you want to build? How many bricks do you have? First, you should have basic grammar understanding. When you have the essence of problem (basic grammar is not much), you won't pay attention to grammar, you realise that how much vocabulary, skills you don't know. (questions about vocabulary that you see and say OH MY GOD, what should I do? Throw the dice? Or close an eye to choose?) As a result, you must have basic grammar knowledge.
- Curriculum has not only grammar, but also other skills. But, why does teacher only teach almost grammar? I ask you: How much cement do you have to build a wall?
- Don't lose heart! Teacher only is person who gives you instructions. Your success is nearly all from your creativeness, your learning yourself. Start to try your best now is not late.
- To be good at communication: you are good at speaking and listening english. 2 skills are important in life. Regret that, in high school, we didn't attach special important to both.
- Regularly have language contact, you will be perfect in english. You can listen to music, read news, watch TV, talk, sing, chat in english regularly as we comb our hair.
- I used to read a article about "bath language". "Bath language" is very essential, because it give us truth sound in a strange language. Our ears install quickly accustomed sound, except strange sound. Ex: when you hear a meaningless sentence like "mặt trời mọc cánh khi chim voi truy cập chén chó" in Vietnamese. I ask you to repeat this sentence, you total repeat it exactly because you get used to sound. But, a person who says this sentence as much again in language which you have never learnt, and ask you to repeat. You can not repeat and tell that you can not hear well. The problem is your ears do not recognize sound. "Bath language" is to familiarize yourself with sound. After long time, your ears will install sound, you are easy on the ear. (but, it's different with Vietnamese sound). Don't lose heart! You remember that: "at least, you bath Vietnamese in 9 months continually day and night before you have first voice and understand some parents' short phrases. Then, you bath language in 4,5 years continually to talk as today".
- Conclusion:
In a few words, I want to tell that: you really want to be good at english (especially communication) you should find any way to have language contact. You're really enjoyable in English, you can do everything. That's passion! English is so interesting! How about you? Let's share!
EX: What does ABCDEFG symbols mean?
-> It means "a boy can do everything for girl" (haha he in fall in love when doing like that. Is that right?)
- This essay maybe has many errors
